Hi,   Can anyone tell me what the compass safe distance is for the NSS7.

I have a cruising yacht and I want to mount it on the pedestal guard above the compass so I can use it while steering. The distance is about 300mm (1 foot).

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike and all,

The mounting location considerations suggested by Simrad for any NSS unit are below.

- Minimum 1 metre (3 feet) away from a compass;

- Minimum 2 metres (6.5 feet) away from any radar scanner or antenna;

- Minimum 1.5 metres (5 feet) away from any radio or AIS transmitting antenna;

- Keep away from motor and alternator interference, petrol/diesel fumes, vibration and excessive heat;

- Keep out of salt spray to maximize life;

- Don't put it somewhere where it will be used as a hand hold, brace or step.

Hi Ben Thanks for your reply. I have monted my new NSS8 above my compass on the gauard bar of my steering pedestal and I have experienced no noticable compass deflections at a distance of around 1 foot.
