Hello,

i am thinking of this setup,

nss8

nss12

b164 through hull transducer

My question is, will the nss8 sounder work for the nss12 and if it does will it be a compromise over the bsm 1 and is the transducer a good choise or will it let the systems best abillity down. I am not looking for what is cheaper i want this set up to be the best it can be

thanks

frank

Hi Frank,

The B164 is a 1kW transducer so will give you excellent performance with the NSS8 built-in broadband sounder. The BSM-1 will be slightly better than the built-in broadband sounder in the NSS8 (or NSS7), however most people are unlikely to notice much difference.

The built-in broadband sounder in the Simrad NSS Sport (NSS7 and NSS8 only) will out-perform most traditional 1kW sounders.

By connecting the NSS8 and NSS12 with a Simrad ethernet cable and also NMEA2000 (Micro-C), they will share all information between them, including the depth sounder pictures and data. I think this is a good choice, and we have plenty of customers using similar setups.

You can only connect two NSS displays together, however, so if you are likely to want to add additional displays in future, it will require some planning.

You need the NSS8 to be switched on for the built-in sounder to function. It will not sound or send any other data when it is switched off, so if using the NSS8 for GPS position as well, also make sure you leave it on (or add a GS15 high-speed GPS receiver to your network).

Here is another helpful idea which may solve your problem.

You may use the NSS12 as a power master, which means the NSS8 will turn on or off automatically, controlled from turning the NSS12 on or off.

To do this:

1. Connect the NSS8 and NSS12 yellow wires (from the power connections) together.

2. In the NSS12 system menu, set as "power control master".

3. In the NSS8 system menu, set as "power control slave".

The NSS8 will now follow the power state of the NSS12. Ensure they are both powered (from the red and black wires) at all times, and use the appropriate fuse on the red wire (see the installation manual for fuse rating).

All the best,
