Between January and June 2010, Club Marine processed 327 theft claims. Other marine insurance providers report similar trends.

Making the news just a few months ago, the Queensland Organised Crime Investigation Unit dismantled a syndicate that used a loophole in national boat registration laws to steal boats and re-register them in Queensland with new identifiers, then trade them interstate with new identities.

The syndicate was charged with numerous boat thefts, with craft concerned ranging in value from $65,000 to $140,000. The thefts were obviously the work of organised criminals, working off a shopping list that included ski boats and high-end power boats.

“There’s no question that many of the boats were targeted,” Club Marine’s Queensland State Manager, Brett Edmonds, says, “Some were behind locked fences.”

Prevention is better than cure. One of the best ways to ensure your boat does not join the statistics is with a BlueRay marine security alarm.

Suitable for trailer boats, moored boats, and any other vessel, a BlueRay alarm will notify you by SMS whenever an intruder, alarm condition (such as door o pening or bilge pump on for too long) occurs. GPS is also employed to alert you if you boat moves outside your predetermined area.

You can have the alarm trigger lights, strobes and sirens, to deter theives, as well as allowing you to track your boat, monitor the state of all sensors, and remotely control switches.

Contact us on (02) 8098 7828 or directly on 0424 847 853 for details on how we can protect your boat, and visit our BlueRay Security Systems page. A trailerboat system installed could cost you less than $1,500.
