Many customers who are upgrading equipment or installing new wish to use their VHF radio from two locations, such as the flybridge and saloon on powerboats, or the cocpit and saloon on sailboats.

It is a pleasant surprise to find that to do this in fact only one radio is required, to get a better result than if you had two!

The Standard Horizon GX1500S supports a "remote access microphone." This is a microphone with backlit LCD display and keypad, which can be located any distance away from the main radio. Almost every radio feature is available to be used at the remote station, and the radio itself still operates as normal. This means you can locate the radio remotely and simply use the remote mic at the helm or nav station. We even installed one radio in a bathroom, because that was the only suitable place! The remote mic was at the helm.

The radio is class D DSC with a second independent DSC reciever on channel 70. A 3-year warranty comes with the radio and mic.

As of June 2010, we sell the radio plus the remote microphone for $699. This also avoids the requirement to install a second VHF antenna. For more information, visit http://vxstd.com.au/marine/ or ask a question here by clicking "post reply."
